I'm sure most of you have seen the Christmas TV adverts, while they are all glitzy and festive, am I the only one that wonders why upwards of £7 million are spent on these adverts?
I would rather have the price reductions in the shops or good bonuses given to their staff. The adverts do not make me choose the stores for my shopping, I choose them because of the items they sell.
An utter waste of money in my opinion.

Baa Humbug! I love the ad's they are the start of the festive season and really get you in the chrismassy mood.
There is enough misery and crap going on in the world, what is wrong with a bit of fun and cheer?

I have to agree with Dannij, the TV is full of misery, a little festive cheer didn't hurt anyone. Embrace the season:encouragement:

I don't think Jade26 is saying she is not festive, or doesn't like them. What she is saying the amount of money that is spent on these adverts is obscene.
I think you are right in some way, that kind of money could be better spent on hospitals, roads, jobs etc and it does stick in the throat a bit, when you consider people are losing their jobs due to shop closures.

Christmas is so commercialised now-a-days. It says so much about how much money these companies make, to warrant spending millions of pounds on telling us they are open for business.
I could give or take Christmas but these is big money in it, and it's the companies money to do as they please.

Just get into the spirit of things, it's not your money.

That's just the point, it is my money if I choose to shop in those shops. I like Christmas as much as the next person, I just don't understand why so much money is spent to remind us to shop!

Have you seen this? http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-3935444/Why-1-spent-Christmas-adverts-turns-24-profit-no-wonder-big-names-spend-7m-them.html
This article suggests that every £1 spent on Christmas adverts they reap £24 return.

I think it would be fair to question whether the adverts have contributed to that £24 for every £1, or whether it is just the season in general. What would that £1 turn into and the same time of the year if there had not been a Christmas advert?

Jade26, they are companies, they exist for one reason only, to make money. In return they offer employment and a service, advertising brings them more revenue, it makes great business sense to advertise, especially during the silly season!
