    Calendula Cream

I’m not going to beat around the bush here, I am dizzy with excitement with my new calendula cream, freshly picked from the garden yesterday.

It is a little unfair to call it calendula cream, when it is also packed with nutrient dense Plantain. I will post the pictures of my process, but before I do, please be reminded this is home made, for me and not for resale to the public

I will post up some fantastic info about Calendula and it’s healing properties by the end of today, and put a link here.

    My ingredients:
Fresh calendula heads, stems and leaves
    Plantain leaves
    Organic coconut oil.
    Beeswax
    Organic Shea Butter

I started off with drying the leaves after washing them thoroughly with lukewarm water

I gathered my Coconut oil, Beeswax and Shea butter - I guessed the amounts (It’s a learning curve)

I then added all of the ingredients into a glass bowl and sat it in a pan of water, once it just started to bubble I turned the heat down to 2 (electric hob) and left it for an our, occasionally stirring with a metal spoon and then testing the warm oil on my skin. By the time this had brewed I was looking like an oil slick, but my skin felt amazing

Once the hour had passed I transferred the oil to a sterile jam jar and left it to cool and steep overnight. This morning I reheated the oil gently, stirring occasionally. And than transferred the oil to three glass amber pots which I had sterilised earlier. I used my specialised sieving technique (tea strainer) although it has been recommended to use a loosely woven muslin cloth.
The left over bit of oil that remained in the jar had cooled so I slathered it over every bit over exposed skin I had, and then managed to get hubby who happened to walk by at this moment - uttering something about guinea pigs

    Here is the finished product

I’d love to find a way to use this pulp, it is incredibly potent, any suggestions?

A quick update, the cream is lovely and comforting, but when I make it again, I will uses less coconut oil and more Shea butter and see how that goes.

This looks interesting, what were the reasons behind Calendula and Plantain?

A friend of mine makes this and it was amazing, my skin was so smooth and very dry patches were moisturised and soothed.

How has this helped you? And why don’t you just buy calendula oil?

You are amazing to make your own calendula cream I find it super nourishing on my lips. You should sell it as organic beauty products are in demand.
