Rose
Damask rose is more commonly used in aromatherapy, and the oil (rose otto) is steam distilled from the delicate petals. Rose absolute is extracted from the flowers cold via a solvent which is removed and recovered for reuse.
The essential oil is pale yellow, while the absolute is orange-red and viscous. Both have a deep, rich and sweet floral smell.
