Juniper
Juniper trees, and more specifically their small dark berries are most commonly known for their association with gin. However their use as an essential oil should not be overlooked. The oil is steam distilled from the berries alone or from the berries, needles and twigs. the oil is slightly sweeter when distilled from the berries alone.

The oil is colourless or pale yellow with a piercing, fresh, warm, woody-herbaceous smell.

Benefits:
Urinary system
When used as a sitz bath, it can be an effective treatment for cystitis. Try as a compress over the lower back for kidney stones or as a footpath or compress for gout.



Detox
A helpful diuretic that also encourages the elimination or uric acid and other toxins. Also helps tones the glandular system, particularly the adrenals and pancreas. When used as a diffuser or room spray also helps detox the indoor air.



Muscles and joints
Relieves rheumatic and arthritic pain, especially if brought on by cold weather.



Skin
Stimulating, astringent and detoxifying. As a skin toner aids in the treatment of clogged, oily and unhealthy skin or skin prone to blackheads and acne. Dilute and apply locally to treat weeping eczema and dermatitis.
