Boris Johnson is drawing up plans to fine people who breach self-isolation rules amid mounting concern that Britain is facing a second wave of coronavirus.

The prime minister is considering enforcing the measure after evidence suggested that people were routinely ignoring advice and leaving their homes.

The move, described as a realistic next step, would be part of a “carrot and stick” approach in which people could also be given bigger payments while they were isolating.

The approach is likely to mirror quarantine measures for those returning from holidays, which require isolation for 14 days.
Police can issue fines of up to £1,000 for breaching quarantine, although the powers have barely been used. Only 34 people have been fined since the measures were introduced.

I wondered if any of you would report Covid rule breakers? I personally wouldn’t but Iknow there are many of my friends who would.

No, I think it is a slippery slope to encourage people to snoop and call the police.

Surely we were expecting this 2nd wave, why does it have to be a finger pointing exercise!

No, not unless there was a massive party that was completely out of hand. But my complaint would be about the uncontrolled aspect, not the risk of more than 6 people gathering.

I think I would if I believed what people were doing was putting all of us at risk!

Choose your battles, one breach of rules that you report could have long lasting feuds with your neighbour if they find out it’s you!

I agree with you it would not be the ‘rule of 6’ more the fact it was out of control!
